TKD Power™ Members from all areas congregated at St. Paul`s Community Centre, Margate last night for promotion testing.
The Examination Panel consisted of Mr. Antony Panteli VI Dan, Mr. Gareth Avenell III Dan and Ms. Sue Chapman III Dan, and Mr. Matthew Godden II Dan. They were assisted by Mr. Joseph Mitchell I Dan, who conducted the proceedings.
Among those testing for promotion were several of TKD Power™ young, up and coming superstars of the future, including Amy Kehoe who was aiming to maintain her, so far, immaculate examination record. Amy did not disappoint and impressed the examiners into awarding her yet another well deserved distinction pass to 5th Kup.
Other performances of note came from Jake Wheeler who was promoted to 3rd Kup with a merit pass, as were Shane Barber to 4th Kup, and Derek Harbottle to 9th Kup respectively.
Derek, 44, particulalry impressed the examiners with a solid performance, demonstrating that even with no particular previous athletic experience, Taekwon-Do is a martial art that can be adapted well for any individual regardless of age or physical condition.
The main event of the evening came in the form of black belt testing to II Dan for Canterbury`s Gavin White.
Having come originally from a non-ITF background, Gavin had worked hard over several years to learn and adopt the ITF style with its distinctive sine-motion and power focus.
His efforts were justly rewarded with a richly deserved promotion to II Dan with merit, following an expert demonstration of ITF Patterns, Sparring, Self-defense and Destruction.
