Mr. Matthew Godden III Dan hosted the group`s annual First Aid Training session yesterday (16/09/2012) at the Dover TKD Power™ Centre, Northbourne Road.
The session was conducted by Ms Sue Chapman IV Dan, who is the Ressucitation Officer for East Kent Healthcare Trust. Ms. Chapman, who has previously conducted first aid courses for TKD Power™ is uniquely able to frame our first aid training in the proper context of Taekwon-Do training, based on her expert knowledge of the art.
The session comprehensively covered basic life support issues including adult & child CPR and choking; unconciousness; fractures, dislocations and soft-tissue injuries; bleeding; angina, heart-attacks and stroke; and seizuers. Additionally participants were given training on the use of defibrillators.
Whilst injuries in our classes are extrememly rare, members should be reassured by the efforts undertaken by our instructors and senior members to ensure their readiness for these unusual eventualities.
The cost of the training to group members was greatly discounted (£15.00 per person, compared to the comparable cost of other providers - such as the Red Cross at around £80.00), and Ms. Chapman, as always, generously provided her time free of charge. All participants received a certificate from the East Kent NHS Healthcare Trust.
Our thanks to Ms. Chapman for her excellent delivery of the course, and naturally to Mr. Godden for arranging the session and the venue.
